Making a Waxy Splash - Learn the Basics of Melted Crayon Art

25 October 2015
It would appear that drawing with crayons is just not fashionable anymore. Not with melted crayon art that is all the rage!

You have to have seen it pretty much everywhere on the internet – works of bright artistic waxy gorgeousness taking over Pinterest and even Etsy.
So what is this art exactly and what makes it so fun for adults and kids alike?
It’s literally melted crayon on canvas. Period.

But it’s your choice of colour combinations and design that make this craft a really entertaining activity and that can elevate your piece of artistic inspiration to that next level.

So what do you need?
Lots (and lots) of wax crayons
Canvas
A hair blow dryer or heat gun
A glue gun or glue stick
Old newspaper

How to make it.
Step 1:
Choose the crayon colours you want to use and line them up on the canvas until you haven’t got any more space.

Step 2:
Take your glue gun, make a line of glue along each crayon and quickly stick them onto the canvas in a straight line with the tips pointing downwards.

Step 3:
Put newspaper on the floor and place your canvas on the newspaper, leaning against the wall.

Step 4:
Switch on your hair blow dryer or heat gun and hold at a distance from the crayons to start them melting but to prevent them from splattering.  Once the wax starts melting, move the dryer or gun around so as to get the wax to melt straight down the canvas.

And while that’s about it by way of technique – the end result is pretty amazing!
