How tο:

There are many carnival mask templates online. However, it is best to find a simple one and then decorate it, the way you want.

First step is to print the mask template on a A4 card stock. Cut out the mask, including the eye holes.
If you are planning to make a two-toned mask or a multi-colored mask, it will be helpful to sketch the design on your mask using a pencil. This will make painting or coloring a lot easier.

The second step is to paint or color your mask. Two-toned or multi-colored masks are great for making bright and festive masks. Metallic colors like gold and silver are commonly used for masquerade masks but ordinary colors are great too.

At this step it is good to know, how to prevent your mask from curling at the edges. First of all, refrain from adding water to paint or add only a little bit to make it spreadable. Secondly, make sure the card stock is thick enough. Finally, paint both sides of the mask.

To add more sparkle to your mask, use glitter glue. The glitter glue's small nozzle is  ideal for decorating small areas and making little details. For large areas, you may squeeze on a glob of glitter glue and spread it with a brush.

After you have finished with the painting or the addition of glitter, and the mask has dried up, you can glue on to it, other objects such as feather, buttons, aluminums foil, fake flowers and so on.

When the mask is ready, punch two holes, one on each side at eye level and tie an elastic band to secure the mask around your child’s head.
