Halloumi bites in sesame

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3 to 4 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1/3 cup sesame seeds
  • 200-g pkg halloumi cheese - cut ino cubes, about 3/4 inch
  1. Scoop flour onto a plate.
  2. Beat egg in a shallow bowl. Pour sesame seeds onto a second plate.
  3. Coat haloumi cubes in flour, shaking off excess. Dip in egg, then roll in sesame seeds to coat.
  4. Pour oil into a large pot until it reaches 1/2 in. up the sides. Heat over medium. Add a third of cubes to hot oil. Do not crowd pot.
  5. Cook, turning cubes often, until sesame seeds turn golden brown, 30 sec to 1 min.
  6. Remove to a papertowel- lined baking sheet. Repeat with remaining cubes.
  7. Warm honey in microwave, about 30 sec.
  8. Drizzle haloumi cubes with warm honey just before serving.
