Absolutely Royal... Shrimp-cocktail with tangy homemade sauce

01 February 2016
A fabulous starter dish to suit everyones taste buds!

What we will need:

1 kg frozen shrimp

70 g. butter

4-5 tbsps. fresh lemon juice

Salt

Parsley

For the sauce:

1 cup mayonnaise

2 tbsp. ketchup

½ cup cream

2-3 tbsps. whiskey

Method:

For this recipe, we start with our sauce to give it enough time to cool down in the refrigerator before serving.

Pour the mayonnaise and ketchup into a bowl and stir vigorously for them to mix well. Then slowly start adding your cream, little by little, until your sauce is at a suitable consistency.  Then add your whiskey for that extra punch of flavor.  Place the sauce in the refrigerator and leave it there for about 30 minutes, until it’s fully set.

Now for our shrimps.  Melt your butter in a pan over high heat.  Then add your lemon juice, followed by your shrimps and salt.  Fry for about 5 minutes – ensuring that they are well coated in the juices that form in the pan - until properly cooked through.

Once cooked, remove from the heat and place them on paper towels so as to drain completely.

Tip for serving: Once you are sure your shrimps are totally drained of any excess liquid, remove your sauce from the refrigerator, fill the bottom of some tall cocktail glasses with the sauce and on top place your delicious shrimps! Garnish with some parsley. Your taste buds will go into overdrive - boom!
