Earth Day 2021: Simple, everyday tips for the protection of our planet

Earth Day reminds us that nothing is a given on our beautiful planet. Crystal-clear waters, fresh air, rejuvenating natural landscapes and our impressive wildlife, won’t last forever if we don’t try to protect and maintain them, even through simple, everyday habits that make a difference. Here are just a few ideas you can start with!

Recycle, recycle, recycle

Apart from plastic bottles and paper packaging, you can recycle batteries (or better yet, use rechargeable ones), appliances and electronics (even mobile devices) and cooking oil, placing each material in the right recycling bin or recycling point.

Composting

In addition to recycling, a composter can also contribute to waste reduction, while also producing natural, free fertilizer for your garden at the same time!

Multiuse shopping bags

Have you ever wondered how many thousands of plastic bags per day would still contaminate our environment for hundreds of thousands of years, if we hadn’t started making eco shopping bags an everyday habit?

Smart thermal insulation

Home energy upgrades with smart insulation methods, double-glazed windows and high-quality curtains or blinds, will keep your home cool during the summer and warm during the winter, saving a significant amount of energy, as the need for air conditioning, as well as other heating and cooling appliances, will be reduced.

Daily energy savings

Apart from thermal insulation, there are various other ways you can save energy at home: Turn off your computer (not just the screen) when you don’t use it. The same applies for all electrical appliances, such as TVs and hair dryers. Disconnect your chargers when you have charged your devices, as they still consume energy when they are plugged in, even when they are switched off.

Saving water

It’s quite simple: Turn off the water when you don’t need it, while washing your hands or brushing your teeth. Don’t forget to fix any leaks around the house. And you definitely don’t need to fill your bathtub, since with our climate, you can always enjoy a quick and refreshing shower instead.

Those little… digital habits

Let’s face it: We live in a time of digital transformation. So why not take advantage of all the tech and digital revolutions happening around us, for the benefit of our planet! What do we mean by that? You can easily pay your bills online, learn how to e-bank effectively, avoid printing when not necessary and use online documents whenever you can!

We hope we have stirred your environmental conscious a little, through these simple everyday tips. Now is the time to take action. Our planet – and the generations to come – will thank you later.
