Homemade Lemonade

02 September 2014

We usually associate lemonade with a hot summer day and relaxation. It’s got that perfect combination of sweet and sour which just gets the mouth watering. Make some at home today and get the kiddies involved! It’s super easy!

Ingredients

½ liter water

4 lemons

800g white sugar

a little bit of ginger power (optional)

Directions

Wash the lemons well and let dry. With a knife or a potato peeler carefully remove 4 to 5 slices of the external yellow part of the peel. Do not remove the soft white internal flesh because it will make the lemonade bitter. Set them aside. Next squeeze the lemons and set aside their juice. Fill up a big pot with water and set it to boil with the sugar, stirring all the while to be sure the sugar fully dissolves. Once it’s boiling, add the lemon peels and set it to a low boil for 15 minutes. A little before we remove the pot from the burner, add the lemon juice and mix well. Throw in a hint of ginger if you want to, stir it a bit more, and then remove it from the flame. Let the lemonade slowly return to room temperature and then remove the lemon peels. Pour the lemonade into tightly sealable containers and refrigerate for about 2 weeks. If the end result is too sweet, dilute with water when you serve it.
