Crispy Beer Bread

Ingredients
  • 4 cups (600g) whole wheat flour
  •  2 teaspoons (16g) baking powder
  •  ½ teaspoon (4g) baking soda
  •  1½ teaspoons (12g) salt
  •  1 can (500 ml) beer
  •  2 tablespoons (40ml) honey
  •  3 tablespoons (30ml) olive oil

 

For topping

  •  2 tablespoons (20g) sunflower seeds or any seeds/nuts of your choice
Method
  1. In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Mix well.
  2. Add the beer, honey and olive oil and stir with a wooden spoon until a soft dough forms. No kneading is required. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  3. Transfer the dough into a greased 24 cm round cake tin with a hole in the centre. Using the back of a spoon, smooth the surface and sprinkle with sunflower seeds.
  4. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 55 minutes, until golden brown and fully baked through.
  5. Let the bread rest for about 10 minutes, then turn it out and slice.
  6. Enjoy while warm, although it is equally delicious once cooled.
