The perfect snack to be eaten with ice cold beer – cheese balls!! So we bring you 4 easy and incredibly tasty recipes that will be devoured in a flash!
 

1. Fried Mozzarella Balls with Marinara sauce

 
Mozzarella cheese and red sauce. A wonderful Italian combination with a little hint of spiciness! 
 
Ingredients:
 
For Mozzarella Balls
 
1 pack of mozzarella balls
 
1 cup all-purpose flour 
 
2 eggs, beaten
 
2 cups breadcrumbs
 
1 tbsp. fresh parsley, chopped
 
1 tbsp. lemon zest
 
Red pepper flakes
 
Salt and pepper
 
For Marinara sauce
 
1 cup tomato sauce
 
2 tbsps. sour cream
 
A few red pepper flakes
 
Method:
 
Put your beaten eggs in one bowl and flour in another. In a third bowl, combine your breadcrumbs, red pepper flakes, parsley, lemon zest, salt and pepper.
 
Next, coat your mozzarella balls with the flour, then the egg and finally your breadcrumb mix.   Place the balls in the freezer for approximately 10 minutes to firm up and then fry in a deep pan with plenty of hot oil until golden brown. Each batch of balls need about 1 minute of frying time. Drain on a tray lined with paper towels and sprinkle with some salt.
 
For the sauce. Mix your tomato sauce with sour cream and red pepper flakes in a bowl and place in the microwave oven for about 2 minutes, until hot.
 
Serve the fried mozzarella balls with Marinara sauce on the side.
 

2. Mozzarella Sticks (without egg)

 
Okay, not cheese balls but another cheesy Italian inspired recipe, ideal for those who don’t want to add egg.
 
Ingredients:
 
1 block of mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
 
1 cup all-purpose flour
 
2-3 tsp Italian herb mix (dry basil, thyme, rosemary, etc.)
 
1 tsp garlic powder
 
¼ tsp black pepper
 
Salt
 
1 cup breadcrumbs
 
Oil for frying
 
Method:
 
Combine the flour, salt, garlic, black pepper, Italian herbs and add a little water until you make a batter without lumps. Leave aside.
 
Take your mozzarella sticks and dip them into the batter and then coat with breadcrumbs. Repeat. Once all your mozzarella sticks have been breaded, place in the refrigerator for about 1-2 hours.
 
Next, heat the oil in a deep pan and fry the mozzarella sticks until golden brown. Then, transfer them to a paper towel lined tray to drain.  Sprinkle some of your Italian herbs over them and serve with some tomato sauce.
 
Note: If you don’t want to fry the cheese sticks, spray them with a little oil and place them in a pre-heated oven at 200°C for about 5-6 minutes.
 

3.  Quick & Easy Oven Baked Cheese Balls

 
A super simple and tasty recipe!
 
Ingredients: (for about 30 balls)
 
3 cups semi-hard cheese, grated
 
3 tbsps. semolina
 
Salt and pepper
 
1 egg
 
1 tsp fresh dill, chopped
 
Method:
 
Preheat oven to 180°C. In a bowl, mix your cheese with semolina. Then add your egg, salt, pepper and dill and mix until it forms a dough.
 
Take a tablespoon of the dough and create a ball. Repeat.
 
Arrange the balls a lined baking tray and bake for about 15-20 minutes in the oven.  Then grill for a further 3-5 minutes until golden brown. Serve.
 

4.  No Bake Cheese Balls! 

 
No cooking required with this recipe!
 
Ingredients: (makes about 20 balls)
 
230 g. cream cheese
 
1 handful of grated cheddar cheese
 
½ tsp dried chives
 
½ tsp dried dill
 
½ tsp dried parsley
 
¼ tsp garlic powder
 
¼ tsp onion powder
 
¼ tsp salt
 
100 g. pecan nuts, chopped
 
Method:
 
Blend all the ingredients together (except the pecan). Next, form into small balls (or one large ball if you prefer) and roll in the chopped pecans until fully coated.  Arrange the balls (or large ball) in an airtight dish and refrigerate for at least an hour. (Tip:  these balls are superb if prepared one day before).
