New Year, means New Goals

30 декабрь 2017

Traditionally these days, apart from the review of the year that is about to end, we set goals for the next one. But what happens ultimately is that these goals  are forgotten until February or we do not succeed.

We will tell you some ways to set goals and actually succeed in succeeding or keeping them.

1. Make your goals specific.

Simply saying "I will lose weight" or "I will start a gym" or "I will learn a foreign language" will not help you. One way to achieve your goal is to be specific. That is, "I'll lose 5 pounds by March," "I'll go to the gym three times a week," or "I'll get the first Spanish level" this year.

2. Measure progress.

“If you can measure it, you can change it” is a fundamental principal of psychology. This means that when you make progress, for example, weight loss, measuring your body after the gym, gaining extra cooking skills, is an extra motivation to continue! Also by marking your progress, you will know when and how you slip off a bit and so you can return to your goals..

3. Be patient.Progress is seldom linear.

Sometimes,  it will take you longer to achieve yourgoal, sometimes you will slow down or go faster. Keep in mind that there is a rule that the best and the most stable results come with patience and slow and thoughtful steps. Make time, your ally.

4. Share your goals with friends and family.

Social support is critical. Yes, it takes some personal courage and vulnerability to share something that you might actually fail at, but to dramatically increase your odds of success you’ll want support from those around you. One of the most effective things you can do is to get an “accountability partner”, someone who checks in with you daily or weekly. It’s easy to break a promise to yourself, but far harder to admit it to a friend or a family member.

5. Get up, when you slip up.

Legendary coach Vince Lombardi said, “It isn’t whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get back up.” Resiliency is paramount. Don’t turn temporary failures into total meltdowns or excuses for giving up. Instead, just acknowledge the mistake and recommit to the path towards the goal. And you will succeed!
