Clever Secrets to Help You Stay Warmer This Winter

You can either bundle up in tons of bulky layers and itchy hats, or you can try these 4 clever tricks…

Don’t be shy. Get yourself a hot water bottle!

Yeah, yeah, so you may feel like an old fogey, but old folks know what’s up! Just swing by your local pharmacy and pick one up. The pharmacist won’t bat an eye. When you get home, fill that bad boy up with hot water from the tap. Just be careful not to burn yourself! Set it down to allow the water level to come flush with the opening, thereby making sure all the air is pushed out. Close the lid and turn it upside down in the sink to make sure it doesn’t leak. You’re now ready to get seriously snuggly. Put it on your frozen feet or even on your tummy, and if it’s too hot wrap it in a towel first.

Protect your extremities. Clap, clap, stomp, stomp!

Our hands and feet are the first parts of our bodies to get cold when we’re outside in winter. That’s primarily due to the fact that they are the farthest body parts from the heart. Also their extreme lack of fat accounts for a good portion of their susceptibility. So if you forget your gloves and your friend forgets to wear wool socks, you just clap vigorously for him while he dances with wreckless abandon. That way you will both pump much needed blood to your respective frozen parts.

Have a drink; key word “a”.

Just as a hot shower will give you a temporary respite from the cold, so will a hit from the bottle. But remember, the “warmth” you feel from the alcohol isn’t to be trusted, as too much will actually make you get colder faster. So take a shower and have ONE of your favorite drinks, heck maybe even at the same time, and enjoy a warm fuzzy feeling which will truly take the edge off!
