How to have a family fun weekend in nature!

27 May 2017
As the days have gone from short to long, we look to take advantage of what we can do, especially when it comes to family weekends. This weekend, we are encouraging you to step outside, and enjoy a family fun weekend in nature! Here are 3 ways you can do it:

Explore a local park

backyard

No matter how long you have lived somewhere, there are always new things to explore. Whether you have one local park, or your area is home to many parks, take the family this weekend and bring them to explore one! Local parks are great places for families to spend quality time and enjoy nature. If you have younger children, local parks are great as they are a safe, enclosed area when the little ones can go off and explore. If you have older children, local parks are great in the idea that you can do many activities together, such as bike riding, or playing your favourite sport.

A walk through the forest

woods

Taking your family on a walk through the forest can be both a very relaxing, and educational experience. After a busy week of work for you and school for the kids, a walk through the forest is not only an aesthetically pleasing experience, but one they can learn a lot from. Bring an old blanket you can lay out somewhere along your walk to take a break and enjoy your surroundings. Let the kids become one with nature by exploring different plants, trees, and creatures! They can also learn a lot by specifying different flowers, to bird watching! Helping them appreciate nature from a young age is something they are sure to always remember.

Spend time in your own yard

If you can’t get to a forest or park this weekend, simply spend time appreciating nature from your own yard! Try spending the entire day outside by doing different activities such as arts and crafts, or playing your child’s favourite outdoor sport. Fit in food time outdoors as well by creating a picnic in the grass, or setting up a barbeque. Spending your weekend in nature, whether it’s in the woods or in your own yard will allow you and your family to spend quality time together with a healthy change in scenery.
