Healthy Snacks: A Must!

04 February 2015
Remember when you were a kid and your mom told you not to eat between meals? Forget that! And remember what nutritionists and dieticians say nowadays, ‘’Eating several small meals a day is the healthiest way to go.’’ Here’s why this makes sense.

Eating several small healthy meals a day, or ‘’grazing’’ helps you loose weight and keep it off. This works because we end up eating less, since we end up never really feeling very hungry. If we allow ourselves to get truly hungry, we inevitably eat too much. Don’t ever catch yourself saying, ‘’I’m not gonna eat anything today becuase I’m going to eat a big dinner later.’’ That’s the worst thing you can do!

Added bonus...it’s great for your heart! And the carbs help your brain function better as well as helping you maintain your strength and energy througout the day.

It Takes Organization

When you starve, and your fridge and cabinets are a jumbled mess, it’s impossible to get something healthy into your mouth before something not so healthy jumps in first. Therefore it’s best to keep your food storage areas neat and organized and fully stocked with healthy snacks so that when you do begin to feel those notorious pangs, you can arm yourself immediately.

If you leave the house for more than an hour, take a ‘’feed bag’’ with you. Include items like dried or fresh fruit, a bar, unsalted nuts, oat biscuits, or any other healthy low fat high vitamin snack you can find on the shelves of your local METRO supermarket.

Warning!

1. Never allow snacks to replace your proper meals.
2. Make sure the snacks you choose contain fiber, vitamins and minerals.
3. Always have a variety of snacks. Variety is the key to a healthy diet.
